Why buy rare breed?
For those of you who may not have yet tried rare or traditional breed meat it is quite simply a taste revelation. These breeds of animal suffered a decline due to intensive farming methods which they were unsuited to, being slower to mature than commercial breeds. Fortunately as people become more and more concerned as to the origins of their food and its production rare breed meat is experiencing something of a renaissance.
The advantages of eating this type of meat are twofold: by eating these breeds we are preserving a diversity of breeds, and the meat has a flavour and texture which is unsurpassed. As we all become more aware of our impact on the enviroment buying locally from producers you trust makes perfect sense in terms of complete traceability and reduction of food miles.
How to buy
The Splendid Meat Company's fantastic local meat is available to buy at our new premises in Hollingbourne every Friday 12-5 and Saturday 10-4. Order in advance to avoid disappointment or simply call in on the day. We also have frozen meat available most of the time, so please ring us if you want to call in and buy at other times. We are now selling our own Rare Breed Pork (Berkshire, Gloucester Old Spot and Saddleback) Portland Lamb reared on our land in Hucking and locally produced Aberdeen Angus Beef. Of course we still have all our wonderful sausages and bacon and free range eggs from our own organically fed hens.

From the A20 travelling from Maidstone towards Leeds Castle turn left at the roundabout opposite the Ramada Hotel. Follow this road into the village and renamin on this road. You will pass the station and the village school on your right. As you go up the hill The Dirty Habit pub is on the right and The Spendid Meat Company is next to the pub.
